Do you know the safest times to drive?
Driving at night is it safer than driving during daylight hours? You may be able to drive at night, but there is also the risk of a drunk driver. Instamotor is a local marketplace for buying and reselling used cars . They have released a study that sheds some light on the issue.
What is the best time to drive? There is such a thing as safe driving times?
The data was gathered from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the United States Department of Transportation. They looked at which states were the safest for driving, and what time of the day is the most safe. The data also allowed for a comparison of gender.
The Fall is the most dangerous season
October appears to be the deadliest month in the entire year. Analyzing the data shows that the average number for crashes in the last four month of the year (2683) is higher than the two-month average (2149). It may be due to the fact that most holidays fall in the last four month of the year. It is not surprising that there are more drunk drivers at this time.
The Safest State to Drive
Massachusetts and Rhode Island are the safest U.S. states for driving. Massachusetts’ rating of 4.9 may seem surprising, given Boston’s bad track record for bad driving. But the numbers do not lie. The west coast and northeast states have the lowest fatality rate per 100,000 people. The worst places are in the middle of the nation and southern states like Louisiana.
Wisconsin has the highest rate at 25.7.
Male Versus Female
The United States Department of Transportation, comparing genders, determined that the safest times for men and women are between 12 am and 6 am on Tuesday. However, the worst times were different for men and women.
It is between the hours of 12 and 6 pm on Thursdays that female drivers are most likely to be behind the wheel. It is surprising that these times only apply to men, as you would expect them to be on weekends. The peak in fatalities occurred on Saturdays and Sundays between 12 am and 6 am. While the maximum number of fatalities for women is around 400, it’s almost three times higher for men at 1100!
Age Factors
The age differences between men and women were another surprise. The highest risks were for both genders in older age. However, there were also some surprising results when looking at earlier ages. Women’s risk peaks between 15-19, then continues to decline until it reaches its lowest level between 40-44. The first peak for men is between 20-24, and then it drops to its lowest level between 55-59.
Women are exposed to risk earlier than men.
