2020 HYUNDAI SONATA – RIGHT ON MONEY AGAIN
- The Hyundai Sonata 2020 strikes the perfect balance between performance, price and quality.
- Interior technology can help drivers stay connected during their daily commute.
- Both engines return an EPA estimated 30+ mpg when combined.
Hyundai unveiled the 2020 Sonata at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year. You’ll be seeing more of this type of vehicle. Hyundai has been working on this for a long time. As I mentioned, you will see a lot more Hyundais, especially the 2020 Hyundai sonata.
Right on the Money
In this case, the sweet spot is the convergence between style, features available, and most importantly, price. Hyundai has figured out, somewhere along the line, how to produce good cars which are in tune with the current automotive design trends. without a high price for the consumer. Imagine Hyundai as a knock-off of a fashion brand. By the time you reach next season, you’ll be a fashionista and look fantastic. When your lease ends, you can ditch your old style for something more modern without breaking the bank.
Mike O’Brien is Vice President of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning at Hyundai Motor America. He said, “Sonata, our flagship product, is our trademark.” Sonata, as one of Hyundai Motor America’s first and most popular nameplates, is our legacy. It needs to be memorable and special in every aspect.
The new-generation Sonata has been transformed into a vehicle that is packed with advanced personalization technologies, a brand new platform and a variety of ADAS systems, said Albert Biermann. He is the President of Hyundai’s R&D division. We are confident that this innovative model will delight our customers.
Design Language: Contemporary and Pleasant
Hyundai says that the 2020 Sonata is a four-door coupe with “sophisticated design.” The 2020 Sonata design is pleasant and contemporary. It will age well. No need to Google “what does the 2010 Hyundai Sonata resemble?” In 2030, we’ll still be there trying to describe Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design language.
Hyundai has a lot of original ideas. Just look at their concepts that they show at auto shows. Hyundai’s focus is on making cars that are affordable, feature-rich, and fashionable. This brings us to 2020 Hyundai Sonata.
O’Brien stated that “Sonata represents our vision for future Hyundai design, great active safety system, and cutting edge technology that is effortless.”

Two solid choices for Power and Performance
The technical aspects are easier to codify, such as how the new Sonata moves down the road. You can choose between two engines, which the South Korean automaker calls “Smartstream gasoline engine powertrains”. One is a 2.5-liter direct-injection engine and the other is a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine (designated “T-GDI”) Both engines are mated with an eight-speed transmission. The Smartstream 2.5 engine, which is the “big” block, produces 191 horsepower with 181 lb.-ft. torque. It returns a combined EPA estimated fuel economy of 33 mpg. The 1.6 turbo engine produces almost the same amount of power and fuel efficiency: 180 horsepower and 195 lb.ft.
Hyundai has never explained why one vehicle is better than another, and neither will I. Who cares? Hyundai buyers are more interested in other factors than speed. important is the comfort, safety and infotainment while you travel.
“Beautifully Smart”
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata’s cabin is defined by the “Beautifully Smart”, whatever that may mean. The 12.3-inch digital display is front and center. The instrument cluster can be customized to fit different driving modes or your personal preferences. The 10.25-inch HD screen in the center of the dashboard controls all audio-video functions and navigation. Get used to hearing the phrase AVN. This will soon be as common in automotive terminology as ABS.
The AVN screen on the Sonata can be split to display audio and navigation simultaneously.
The latest Sonata comes with a Bose Premium Sound System that has 12 speakers. Hyundai claims that audio and EQ settings are automatically adjusted based on vehicle speed. I don’t really care. Hyundai and Bose may have the best of intentions, but cars are not concert halls.

Dual Bluetooth Keyboard with Digital Keys
Hyundai describes all of this as “convenience technologies,” and it’s pretty accurate. The 2020 Hyundai sonata comes with a lot of convenience and comfort features that you would normally only find in luxury cars. Sonata features a sunroof, heated and ventilated seats in the front and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The Qi wireless charger pad comes with a cooling fan, and Bluetooth Text-toSpeech is available.
Dual Bluetooth means that two devices can be paired simultaneously. Why? Why?
Hyundai Digital Key uses Near Field Communication to ensure that data is only transmitted when the device and reader are in close proximity. The 2020 Sonata will be able to lock and unlock your vehicle, activate panic alerts, and even start the engine when you are near. Hyundai Digital Key, oddly, is only compatible with Android smartphones. So, if you have an iPhone, you’re out of luck. Yes, the Sonatas come with conventional keys as well.

Safety & Security
There’s no doubt that there are many driver assistance features and safety technologies. The new Sonata comes with three radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensor, as well as five cameras. They support safety gadgets such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCAA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Advanced Smart Cruise Control With Stop and Go and Highway Driving Assist. Other digital assistants include Lane Following Assist and Safe Exit Assistant, Blind-Spot Collision Alert, Blind-Spot Collision View Monitor, Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance Assist.
Even the door handles are equipped with a clever trick called “Touch sensor outside door handles.” To lock your car, simply touch the sensor located on the exterior of the handle. Pulling the handle activates a sensor inside the handle that opens the door.
Pricing & Availability
You can own this amazing tech and safety in the fall. The production of the 2020 Sonata begins in September at Hyundai Manufacturing Alabama, and retail sales will begin in October. Hyundai has yet to reveal the MSRP. It will cost about 15 percent less. You’ll see thousands of vehicles at the dealerships before your eyes.
